Sports Medicine Associates of San Antonio (SMASA)Sports Medicine Associates of San Antonio (SMASA) is a multispecialty group of physicians and surgeons devoted to taking care of “any athlete, any injury, any time.”

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa is one of Texas’ best hospitals for clinical excellence—HealthGradesreceiving the HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital award six years in a row—and the Family Medicine residency program is one of the reasons why.

Fellows will work in the Texas Center for Athletes, a multispecialty outpatient surgical facility that contains multiple disciplines caring for athletes of all ages.

Curriculum

In addition to working with experienced Sports Medicine faculty, all distinguished in their fields, the fellows will also have the following educational experiences throughout the year:

  • Teaching Assistants (TA) for first-year medical students during the “extremity” portion of Gross Anatomy labs at the University of Texas Health Science Center Medical School.
  • Online exercise physiology course, complete with eBook readings, questions, and quizzes.
  • Research opportunities with Dr. Jack Ransone, an international and Olympic sports medicine athletic trainer and professor in exercise science.

Schedule

The fellows will work in the clinic and in training rooms of both high school and college athletes. Here is a sample schedule:

PCSM – Primary Care Sports Med
