Our Program

The CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency Program was founded on one simple principle: "Excellence In All We Do." Since its founding, this simple but profound concept has provided the focus, and the program has continued to educate and produce some of the best family physicians in America. With energetic faculty committed to creative, innovative medical education, and the support of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health Care, which is routinely listed as the best hospital in San Antonio and one of the best in Texas by HealthGrades^®, the program is able to attract year after year family medicine residents who are second to none. We believe that iron sharpens iron, and maintaining excellence in medical education, clinical care and health care leadership demands that we continue to fill our ranks with the best and brightest family medicine applicants from across Texas and the U.S.

We are proud of our approach to producing the traditional, consummate family physician. We have a curriculum that builds on the notion that exceptional family physicians must:

1. possess excellent clinical and procedural skills,
2. have the capacity and the commitment to be a lifelong learner and critical thinker,
3. have the ability to integrate and bring value to the community in which he or she serves, and
4. have the skills to communicate and teach effectively. While our emphasis is on producing well-rounded, comprehensive family physicians, residents with a particular area of interest have the opportunity to develop focus areas including additional obstetrics, sports and musculoskeletal medicine, health care leadership and policy, practice management, and acute/emergency medicine.
