David D. Ortiz, MD, FAAFP

Residency – Eglin Family Medicine Residency Program, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida

Dr. Ortiz joined the group in the fall of 2007 after serving as a family physician and flight surgeon in the United States Air Force for 7 years. Dr. Ortiz graduated from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and completed his residency at the Eglin Air Force Base Family Medicine Residency Program, where he also served as chief resident. He has been involved in medical education with both medical students and residents since 2003, serving as a Family Medicine third-year medical student clerkship site director and as clinical faculty.

Dr. Ortiz brings a variety of experiences to the program. He has worked in clinical practice, served as medical director, director of occupational and preventive medicine programs, physician champion for two electronic medical records (EMR) implementation programs, and as a director of quality improvement. He thoroughly enjoys practicing the full spectrum of Family Medicine and has a special interest in global medicine and the development of Family Medicine in underdeveloped countries, family-centered maternity care and quality improvement. He is a member of the TAFP Commission on Health Care Services and Managed Care. He is also a member of the AAFP, TMA, BCMS, STFM and the Christian Medical and Dental Association (CMDA).

Dr. Ortiz enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter and is very involved in his local church, where he plays bass and electric guitar for the worship team.
